Disappointment on Saturday, Brilliant on Sunday On Saturday DSL had the upper hand winning both 1st and 2nd XI games but in the 1st XI there was a real positive as Jordon Williams snatched a point with a fantastic 50 under great pressure to give the boys heart for the big Sunday game in the last 16 of the Barclays Wealth LCB Knockout against high flying Glossop. Glossop lead our league by 8 points and have been the outstanding team this season with former West pro Perera leading the way with what could be a record run haul for the season. On a glorious day Windsor Park was packed out for the football and the cricket and the big crowd turned back to the cricket to see Glossop build a challenging score of 265 for 9, (perera 91). West started slowly in response but began to accelerate as Lee Dale and West pro Scott Kirwin began to build a partnership. Needing 8, 9 or 10 runs an over for most of the last 15 Lee Dale made a big hole in that with a tremendoous 115. All the lads then chipped in and needing 6 off the last over it unbelievably got to 264 for 8 with 1 ball left. Glossop had not realised the significance of the wickets and the West lads knew 1 run would do it. Jamie Guard and Jordan Williams scampered a single to secure a memorable win in a game that could have gone either way. Two good teams, a great crowd, great weather and a fantastic game, a credit to our league and some pleasure for all those disappointed with the footy. In the quarter finals of the lancashire cup we will unbelievably face the 3rd team from our own league in DSL away. We understand this is likely to be 18th July |
