Formby CC is a founder member of the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition having been established at its historic site in Cricket Path, Formby in 1865.
Please look to its 'History' section for a fuller contribution from the Club's historian and umpire Mike Leddy.
In 2009, Formby will be playing in the ECB Liverpool Competition Premier League having won its first ever 1st X1 Trophy in 2007 as 1st Division Champions under the leadership of skipper Steve Dutton. Newly appointed captain Andy Halpin will now lead the side.
We have been fortunate in recent years to have had a number of 1st Class players representing us including James Marshall ( New Zealand ), Neil Parlane ( New Zealand ), Stephen O'Keefe ( New South Wales and Australia U-19's ) and former Northumberland captain Graeme Morris. This year we have signed Lancashire opening bowler, Tom Smith, who will play whenever a certain Freedie Flintoff and Saj Mahmood are in the England squad.
Please feel free to come down to Cricket Path any Saturday when you will be assured of the highest quality club cricket, a friendly atmosphere and beer which is in the local CAMRA guide.'
Finally we should mention our major sponsors, 'The Witherslack Group of Schools Ltd'., 'Formby Timber' and 'Special Needs Solutions Ltd.' without whom and our other sponsors we could do little to retain our status in the highest echelons of Club Cricket. Our overseas for 2009 will be Eastern Suburbs 1st grade allrounder Justin Waller, Justin Will be doing 1 2 1 coaching, so please e-mail for more info.
