Local businessman Gareth Wilson (www.wilson-gardening.co.uk) has been so impressed with Glossop Crickets Clubs season to date that he has promised to sponsor the club should they continue on their winning streaks until the end of the season. Gareth, a former Glossop player, is particularly keen on supporting the youth development at the club as this is where his career started under the careful watch of his Grandfather Jimmy and devoted member Roger Mays. Gareth stated "I have been monitoring Glossop's progress over the years and always take time to watch the senior sides at the weekends. Im really pleased that the first and second X1 are challenging for the league, its even more impressive when you consider that both the 3rd and 2nd X1 have made their respected cup finals too. I have sponsored the club on a few occasions over the years but this time I would like to give them a little extra incentive to lift some silverware as its been 11 years since our last trophy" For every cup competition or league which the senior sides wins he has promised to make a donation to the North Road outfit "the club has given me many happy years and I really want us to do well, I hope this will give the teams that little cutting edge to go on and win". The money doesn't stop there either, Gareth has also promised a prize to the first X1 player of the season as well as Glossop's Professional, Bathiya Perera, a little something should he break the LCL league record for runs scored in a season. "This currently stands at 1550 and Bathiya already has 1150 at the halfway stage so it looks promising for a record".
