Prestwich coasted to victory by nine wickets in their Lancashire County League clash at Irlam last Saturday. But the Heys boys were on the receiving end of a batting masterclass the following day, losing out to Farnworth Social Circle in the prestigious Lancashire Cup.
IT'S not often you get the chance to brush shoulders with some of the country's top cricketers. But youngsters from the under-11 team at Prestwich Cricket Club got to step onto the hallowed turf of Old Trafford and do just that.
An record breaking unbroken partnership of 135 was required as Prestwich recovered amazingly from a near hopeless situation to win by 4 wickets on Saturday as Irlam 2XI tasted defeat at The Heys for the second time in six days.
Luke OBrien and Jamie McAndrew were the heroes for Prestwich.
Cup holders Prestwich blew away Woodhouses to reach the Walkden Cup semi-final. On a Sunday more akin to October than mid-June, and a wind more familiar to the Blackpool promenade, the Heys side swept aside last season’s beaten finalists by 64 runs.
Prestwich Second Team were beaten by the weather on Saturday, picking up only 1 point, but bounced back well on Sunday to beat Irlam and book a place in the semi-final of the Hulme Trophy.
Prestwich Seconds took the derby day honours away at the SCG to gain revenge for their only defeat of the 2007 season. John Fiorentini shared an opening partnership of 149 with David Taylor as they won comfortably by 8 wickets.
