Minister for Sport, The Right Hon. Geoffrey Sutcliffe MP and Ivan Lewis MP attended a presentation on Prestwich Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club's development plans, held at the club last Saturday.
Chairman Brian Lorenzini, assisted by Ray Austin, Dave Wharton and Alan Millington presented an update on the development plans announced last summer.
'Phase 1' of the project should be complete with three new Tarmacadam Tennis Courts replacing the now very tired shale courts.
The Lawn Tennis Association gave the club their support who then proceeded with an LTA agreed Tennis Development Plan incorporating a new post of tennis professional to the club. His main duties being coaching within local schools and at the club's own training sessions throughout the year.
All these plans were with promised aid from the LTA which failed to materialise. Disappointingly the LTA have suffered major funding difficulties which have resulted in a delay of at least one season to this element of the project.
Following the session, the Minister has agreed to talk with the CEO of the LTA and also arrange for Ivan to meet with the CEO separately in an attempt to make some progress on behalf of a community club that is pressing to improve its facilities and develop young tennis players.
On belhalf of PCTBC we would like to thank Ivan Lewis MP for his continuing support.
