Still with players away and injured, coupled with the early kick-off for the Manchester derby, there was some work going on behind the scenes making sure we could get a full team out for this match.

Brian Ahern completed his trio of games ‘coming out of retirement’ as cover for Hudson, keeping two clean sheets in three wins, only being beaten from the penalty spot.

Lee Russell also returned to the action as Prestwich looked to complete their first ‘double’ of the season. As it turned out, it wasn’t to be the only ‘double’ of the day either!

The home side started brightly enough with Curtis Ward sending a direct free-kick just wide before John Fioretini saw an effort headed off the line.

The breakthrough came in the 21st minute as Foley stole possession in the middle of the park. Threading a pass in to the path of Grimes, the forward slotted home to the side of the ‘keeper for his first long-awaited Prestwich strike.

Halfway House were playing better than their lowly league position suggests and they had a chance to get back on level terms just before half-time.

A free-kick on the right was fired across the face of Ahern’s goal but midfielder Jonathan Sharples was well placed to clear off the line.

Prestwich grabbed their second mid-way through the second-half as Foley beat the Halfway ‘keeper low at his near post.

The game was put to bed shortly after when the referee punished a handball in the box with Curtis Ward sending the ‘keeper the wrong way from the resulting penalty kick.

It was then time to watch something else put to bed as Benji, Vass and the boys finally put an end to a 34 year winless streak at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’®©™
