THE "PUB TEAM" DONE GOOD

Chris ThomasPCCFC opened the new football season with two 45 minute games against Prestwich Heys at Sandgate Road on Wednesday evening. With our 13 players, we took on two different teams from the Manchester League club and came away with a couple of very respectable results.

A battling performance throughout, PCCFC kept a Heys first team XI out, as well as creating a couple of decent chances themselves, before Mat Jolly's 37th minute header gave the home side the lead.

But a flowing cricket club move down the right saw Chris Thomas head home a Stephen Grimes cross to get the visitors back on level terms.

Unfortunatley, Heys grabbed a winner in the final seconds of the game as Daniel Murray slotted home from what looked pretty certain offside position.

As the lads took a breather at the break, a new and fresh Heys reserve team XI took to the field to see if they could take advantage of a knackered looking PCCFC side in the second 'game' of the night.

But we continued to defy our hosts with some dogged and determined performances all over the park until Matthew Lott popped up in the 25 minute to give Heys the lead.

Kevin Ball nearly got us back on terms before we were awarded a penalty with 3 minutes to go after a clumsy challenge on Dean Astley. Veteran Paul Mercer stepped up and slammed in to the roof of the net to gain a deserved draw for the Bury Sunday League side.
