Congratulations are in order to skipper Dave Taylor and his under 17 team as they defeat Denton in the play off final to win the treble for the first time.

Wednesday night's thrilling 4 run victory to win the play off final sealed a tremendous season for the under 17 side. The victory saw us defeat Denton on the night who we also overcame at the start of the month to clinch the Greenhalgh Cup. League victory was secured in the gloom at Cheetham Hill the previous Wednesday, the margin of victory being 4 points.

The game could not have been more exciting as Denton came to seek revenge for their heavy defeat in the 40 over cup final. Prestwich were asked to bat first and made a terrible start as Tom Barling went for a duck leaving us on 0-1. Sam Holden (30) & James Wharmby (32)steadied the ship adding 50 for the second wicket. The rate was then picked up as skipper David Taylor (18) and Adam Cheshire (39) moved through the gears. the innings closed on 126-6.

In reply the inform Jamie Garde was unluckily run out as he slipped taking a quick single. A second wicket stand of 72 from the hard hitting Patel (35) & McIlwaine (60)pushed Denton close to the winning post. Patel was superbly caught by Dave from the bowling of 'golden arm' Tom Gibson and when McIlwaine tried to finish the game going for a third 6 when only 17 runs were required from 17 balls, to a catch from keeper James Wharmby. Time seemed to stand still at that point and you really could have heard a pin drop as we all awaited the outcome!! Panic set in the Denton team and some great death bowling from Adam Cheshire eventually saw Denton fall 4 runs short at the close.

A thrilling victory was secured in what has been a tremendous season. Great thanks go to a great bunch of lads wonderfully supported by a top class bunch of parents. Special thanks go to skipper Dave Taylor & Tom Ward who depart the junior ranks, but what a great legacy to leave behind.

Club chairman Brian Lorenzini was thrilled with the achievement. "This result is testimony to the strength of ouir junior coaches and their committment to providing quality young players," said Lorenzini.

"My personal thanks go to Gary and all the coaches who contribute to our quite superb set up!"

Treble winners!!
