On Sunday the first team lost their grip on the Walkden cup after suffering a humiliating defeat at Prestwich.

Last Saturday our first eleven enjoyed a comfortable 6 wicket victory over Dukinfield at the SCG to pick up maximum points. After a delayed start and early rain interruption, the visitors who were asked to bat first, were blown away by a superb spell of fast bowling from the pro, skittling Dukinfield for just 75.

The first team suffered an eight wicket defeat at The Heys, after a middle order batting collapse resulted in us posting an under par score of 160. However the second team recorded an impressive 103 run victory at the SCG, bowling Prestwich out for just 98 having posted 201 first dig. The third eleven were involved in the most exciting game of the weekend in their cup semi at Denton West. We posted 183 from 40 overs and the hosts who were always behind the run rate, heartbreakingly hit a boundary off the last ball with 4 required for victory.

This past weekend our first and second team games on Saturday against Thornham were both abandoned without a ball being bowled due to waterlogged squares and outfields. Our third team game away at Glossop on Sunday was also hit by the weather and abandoned. This coming weekend we take on local rivals Prestwich on Saturday, with the first team in action at The Heys and the second team at the SCG. On Sunday our 3rd team has a cup semi final away at Denton West.

Success over the weekend as the first team picked up 6 points, with the twos claimed a maximum 10 with comfortable victories over DSL and Woodhouses. The first team made a courageous effort chasing DSL’s 249/7, reaching 187/9 to claim a batting point on Saturday at home. Then on Sunday we recorded our first victory over Woodhouses since returning to the LCL. The game was marred by a number of ridiculous umpiring decisions given against both sides. We were dismissed for a modest 135, but on an unusual green top we restricted the hosts to 105 all out, thanks to superb spells from Carl Sutcliffe and Amila Weththasinghe, backed up by some excellent catching.
