This Village Cup Regional Semi-final had everything. Well over 500 runs, some very big hitting, lost balls, cars being hit, fabulous fielding. Weather-wise, support-wise and in Woodhouses case, result-wise, everything was perfect. There has to be a winner and a loser and unfortunately Wrea Green came out second in this terrific game of cricket. All credit to WGCC, they chased 283 in the 40 overs and at one point looked like getting them. Man of the match, Doug Sloan, with an unbelievable 29 ball unbeaten 89, also starred with the ball, taking key wickets towards the end to calm the nerves of a packed Medlock Road. Wrea Green were very gracious and dignified in defeat and stayed in the club for some time having a drink with WCC players and supporters. Their Chairman very kindly presented WCC Chairman, Ian Pickles, with a beautiful glass plaque to commemorate our Centenary. Albeit WGCC players will be very disappointed with the result, they can be proud of the way they represented the village, both on and off the field. From everybody at WCC we wish them all the very best for the rest of the season. THE NPOWER VILLAGE CUP REGIONAL FINAL IS AWAY TO GREAT ECCLESTON ON SUNDAY 15th JUNE - STUMPS 2.00pm. |
